墨西哥南部外海發生規模7.3強震，震源深度僅10公里，就連鄰國瓜地馬拉都明顯有感。墨西哥一度發布海嘯警報，所幸約兩小時後警報解除，沒有傳出重大傷亡。
地上滿是大大小小的磚瓦碎石，幾乎看不出原貌。瓜地馬拉西部，靠近墨西哥邊境城市的這處公車站，因墨西哥強震後倒塌。
地震警報大響，所有紅十字會人員疏散至戶外。墨西哥南部恰帕斯州沿海地區，發生規模7.3強震，震源深度僅10公里，屬於極淺地震，鄰國瓜地馬拉與薩爾瓦多，都有明顯震感。

塔帕丘拉民防部長馬丁內斯指出，目前除了該棟建築外，未發現其他結構性損壞，但建築仍有部分肉眼可見的裂縫。
地震發生後，不少民眾走出大樓至戶外避難，墨西哥政府隨即發布海嘯警報，台灣氣象署同樣發布海嘯警訊。
墨西哥當局要求民眾遠離海灘，所幸兩小時後警報解除，而這場地震雖然沒有造成重大損害與傷亡，但強烈的搖晃仍讓不少民眾心驚驚。
